Baby Planning 20 Week Scan causes postcode lottery! Many
women in this country do not receive an anomaly scan on the NHS, whilst
many do. I think it is unfair that pregnant women are missing this vital
service due to where they live, or being forced into paying in excess
of £100 for the scan to be performed privately. This scan isn't
about wanting to see your baby; it is about identifying and diagnosing
potential life threatening problems and I think it is unfair that local
Health Authorities decide who can and cannot have the scan. Faye
Ansell http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/anomalyscan/ Top Tips for New Mums Newborns - So your bundle of joy has arrived after an exhausting labour. What now? Well if like me you had a long labour - the sleepless nights were really much worse than any pain endured. My little one had horrendous colic, right as a newborn. I couldn't quite believe the constant need for him to suck and the extensive crying when he was put down. Meals in the hospital were often eaten cold, but most certainly one handed. Right after the birth my feet and hands were swollen too. Once I was up on my feet, that soon started to go down. Once I was fit to leave hospital ( I had an unexpected blood loss) a few days later, my son was diagnosed with jaundice. A very common problem with newborns. He required UV therapy for 3 days, with daily blood tests to check that his belliruben leaves were dropping. On reflection what would I have done differently - I would have given him a soother in the hospital and bought swaddling blankets for use at home. As for breastfeeding I would have expressed milk into bottles for him. Instead I gave in to formula at 11 days. Breastfeeding- This is a choice that only you can decide, and I think every woman knows when she has had enough. But for lots of us there is incredible guilt about not trying it or not doing it long enough. For those who do breastfeed successfully they face other issues. Like breastfeeding in public, when to wean and trying to introduce a bottle to an older baby. Breastfeeding Postives Free, No need to Sterilise, No need to Warm the milk, Benefits to Mum & Baby. Bottle Feeding Positives Others can feed baby, Amount of milk consumption can be seen, No latching problems, Hungrier babies are better satisfied. Mum's Body after baby. Being pregnant and proudly showing off our growing bump, soon changes after we give birth. The baby bump will reduce almost immediately after the birth, but the bloated roundness will take a good while longer before you are back into your pre pregnancy clothes. Even at a year after the birth most women are still 1 size bigger than their pre pregnancy figure. For most of us our body will never be the same again. Stretch marks can be reduced with creams designed to help fade them, although these will turn silvery in colour over time. Weight will now be stored in completely different places from before, and the myth that pregnancy & breast feeding would shrink your breasts doesn't always ring true. Most womans ribcage will have expanded to house the growing baby resulting in a larger bra size, along with a bigger cup. What most woman find difficult to accept is that lovely toned stomach is gone for good. It has been replaced with a "jelly belly" that hangs, due to the skin being stretched. We have found a wonderful site that boosts the confidence of all mothers and helps us embrace the new body that our baby has brought us.
